Folic Acid Education

Coinciding with our fraternity's mission to promote women's health, Lambda Kappa Sigma actively works to promote folic acid awareness at Pacific's health fairs. Humans cannot make their own folic acid so we must get it from our diets. We speak with patients and administer informational pamphlets to help them identify which foods contain folic acid and how much they need to take each day. Folic acid has been shown to lower the risk of cancer, stroke, and heart disease. Women can especially benefit from folic acid if they are pregnant or planning to become pregnant due to decreased risk of congenital malformations such as spina bifida. We greatly enjoy volunteering our time to help community members learn about preventative measures so they can maintain excellent health.
